These easy homemade bread crumbs could not be any easier! Use any bread you choose – optional garlic/seasoned version included!

  • Sourdough or other bread, any quantity, completely dried out*

*If using stale bread – try to cut or tear the bread before it becomes completely dried out and let it sit out, uncovered, for 1-2 days. If using fresh bread, follow the instructions below to dry out completely.

For seasoned bread crumbs:
Per 1 cup of finished bread crumbs, mix in:

  • 1 tsp italian seasoning (a mix of: basil, oregano, thyme, rosemary, marjoram, & sage)
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees
  2. Cut or tear bread into pieces 1” or smaller. It is best to do this before the bread becomes stale.
  3. To dry out, spread the bread evenly on a baking rack. Leave space between pieces and use multiple pans if necessary.
  4. Bake at 200 for 60-80 minutes, or until the bread is completely dried out and there is no chewiness at the center at all.
  5. Place the dried bread into a food processor or blender and pulse until bread crumbs are uniform in size. Work in smaller batches if necessary.
  6. Store in an airtight container.
